The ultimate guide on rightsizing your compressed air system

Choosing the right compressed air system is crucial to minimize the total cost of ownership. How do you calculate the air demand in flow rate (CFM) and pressure (PSIG), what's the power requirement (V), and how does that translate in a compressed air system with one or more compressors (hp)?

Types of air compressors

We provide fully serviced, pre owned, and brand new  air compressor types to suit all kinds of  applications:

  1. Rotary Screw Air Compressors: These versatile machines offer continuous, super silent, reliable compressed air for industrial use.
  2. Piston Compressors: Ideal for intermittent use, workshops,  and smaller applications.
  3. Oil-Injected Compressors: Provide efficient, robust generation of compressed air for multiple manufacturing, and production processes.
  4. Oil-Free Compressors: Perfect for critical, and sensitive applications requiring clean, oil-free air.

Air compressor sizes and capacities

Our air compressor range spans from 3hp to 700hp, producing 12cfm, to 3,000cfm. With models covering such a vast spectrum,  we have the right size machines for your needs. Whether you need a small compressor for a workshop or a large industrial unit, we've got you covered. In fact we even offer compressors which sit outside your facility and free up valuable real estate inside your building.

Pressure range

We offer both low-pressure and high-pressure air compressors to match your specific requirements.

Driven by belts and pulleys, up to 30hp, these machines can be modified for pressures ranging between 80psig, and 217psig.

Direct drive, motor to air end via a coupling,  the majority of Kaesers models, 30hp and above, can produce varying pressures too. The recent addition of Kaesers gear driven mid range models now provide the ultimate pressure rating spectrum, and every Kaeser compressor is handcrafted in Germany to produce premium electric drive motor efficiency, and best in class performance. For pressures greater than 217 psig, we have you covered with Kaeser's award winning Booster compressors.

The Importance of proper air compressor selection

Selecting the right air compressor is crucial for several reasons:

  • Energy Efficiency: The right compressor can significantly reduce your energy costs.
  • Performance: A properly sized compressor ensures optimal performance, avoids short, or rapid cycling, mitigates oil carryover, low system pressure, and lack of compressed air volume.
  • Longevity: The correct compressor will have a longer lifespan, reducing service repair, and replacement costs.

Compressed air system components

A complete compressed air system often includes more than just the compressor. Consider these additional components:

  • Air Dryer: Essential for removing moisture from compressed air, preventing damage to cylinders, valves air tools and equipment. Unwanted moisture, and condensate can wreak havoc on your production, equipment, and product.
  • In line filters: Protecting your system, equipment, and product from contaminants such as dirt, oil, vapour, odour, and bacteria is highly recommended. We offer a filter element style to combat all, or any of the above unwanted impurities.
  • Oil/Water Condensate Management: Directing this hazardous bi-product of your compressed air system directly to a drain, or a soak away, can result in hefty fines and penalties. We have a simple, low cost solution for you. Our Condensate management systems require no hydro, and are simple to  maintain, once per year.

Frequently asked questions

See All Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I service my air compressor?

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance. Most air compressors, operating 24/7, require inspections, minor and major service every 2000 operating hours, or at 3 months, whichever arrives sooner. Low duty systems are typically serviced annually, or semi-annually, depending on the environment they operate in, and the hours they run for. Need advice, or guidance, thats what we specialize in, and “discovery calls” are at no charge.

What size air compressor do I need?

The size depends on your specific application. Our team can help you calculate your compressed air requirements and recommend the right size.

What's the difference between a rotary screw compressor and a piston compressor?

Rotary screw compressors are designed for continuous use, when low sound levels are necessary. Reciprocating piston compressors are better suited for intermittent use, in smaller applications, such as automotive service shops. The price of a piston machine is approximately 15, to 20% less than an equivalent rotary screw machine, and the noise levels can be 15 to 20 dB(A) louder too.

Do I need an air dryer with my compressor?

An air dryer is highly recommended to remove moisture from your compressed air, which can affect your finished product, and damage your air tools and equipment.

Who makes Kaeser air compressors?

Kaeser air compressors are manufactured by Kaeser Kompressoren, a family owned German-based company with a long-standing reputation for engineering high-quality, reliable compressed air systems. Kaeser is known worldwide for its innovation, energy efficiency, and robust solutions tailored to various industrial applications.

How long does a Kaeser air compressor last?

With proper maintenance, a Kaeser air compressor can last 15 to 20 years or more. Kaeser compressed air solutions are designed for durability, featuring high-quality components and engineering that ensure a long operational lifespan. Regular servicing and adherence to maintenance schedules will help maximize the lifespan of your compressor.
